I got it at midnight on its release day, and it is TOTALLY worth it. I clocked in at 75 hours before even thinking about the final boss--and that's with no sidequests, which can all be played after you clear the storyline.
(Its levelling system fills me with glee. The intuitive design of the sphere grid without those pesky spheres, the near-limitless potential of the license board with no need to buy spells. It's like FFX and FFXII had a baby, and that baby was smarter, funnier, and more fun to be around than either of its parents.)
