I believe a loud, heartfelt "AUGH!" is called for.
So, a while back, I got onto
fst and downloaded a FFX/FFX-2 FST called "This Is Our Story."
I have taken three, maybe four good tracks from that FST, and even those don't fit the characters they're supposed to. Except for the piano collections version of "To Zanarkand," which is fucking excellent and I have used it to write tearjerkers.
Okay, "Le Cantique de Jean Racine" for the Aeons is pretty cool. And "Ebla" for the Destruction of Home? Also pretty cool. But The Cranberries - Zombie does not fit Auron. I did not think that David Usher's "Black Black Heart" fit Sin at all and wondered if the FST arranger had even played the goddamn game, or perhaps just understood that bit where Sin was a monster being summoned by Yevon to, you know, protect Zanarkand and stuff. I was particularly unamused by the choice of Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger for Wakka, because that is not a song that remotely feels like him, and if it applies to him, then it applies to the rest of the fucking cast.
I have made a concerted effort not to listen to any of the songs from this FST. But my Winamp betrayed me today and shuffled this nonsense into my queue:
Alicia Keys - [Love Theme For Tidus and Yuna] Never Felt This Way
WHAT. THE FUCK. IS WRONG. WITH THE AUTHOR. OF THIS FST.
Okay, so Tidus and Yuna are far from my FF OTP. I am grudgingly fond of Tidus in much the same way I am grudgingly fond of Vaan. It has taken me four fucking playthroughs across roughly six or seven years to learn not to hate Yuna. Personally, I like to wander off into femslash land and ship Rikku/Lulu really fucking hard.
They are still five times more epic than any fucking Alicia Keys song. It doesn't help that I have an auditory allergy to most pop, but still. Alicia. Fucking. Keys. ALICIA FUCKING KEYS.
I swear to god, I am about to do an Al Pacino emotional aneurysm thing. Seriously.
