Well, I've formed a more definite opinion of ACII now that I'm not failing absolutely everything.
It's endeared itself to me. To the point that I wish I was at home playing it.
One of my biggest problems with it is that I keep expecting it to handle like Arkham Asylum, which it does not in the least. Batman seems a lot more invincible than Ezio is at the start of the game. Not to mention that grappling gun makes everything easier.
I do love ACII's gameplay for itself. It's fun, it's intriguing, it's a challenge but once you get over the learning curve, it starts to become intuitive. Not to mention the "desynchronization" mechanic means you can go back and try your missions again and again. Comes in really handy for somebody like me, who can take a while to figure out strategies.
I'm currently in the midst of learning to "blend." Naturally, I keep pinging guards and desynchronizing. Le Sigh. I'm sure I'll get it, if I just keep working at it.
The surest sign that it's grown on me? I wish I was at home playing it.
