Favorite(s) of the batch:

"Together as the Lights Fall," maybe, or maybe "Let Go." Or maybe "Dust Shall Eat the Days."

Best of the batch:

Without a doubt, "Eight Portraits of a Lady." I both loved and hated writing it--I have a real love/hate relationship with deathfic--because it was a painful thing to do, it was a hard to place to visit, but it was ultimately very rewarding. "Dust Shall Eat the Days" was also very rewarding.

Most underappreciated by the universe:

"Going Forward." The fault is probably mine, but I still grit my teeth at the people who go "GLOJKSDGL:HG OMG HOW SAD" in response to it. "Eight Portraits" was sad. "Going Forward" is much more positive. And yet I wasn't communicating that. I see Barret as having hit the shatter point of his grief (that moment of clarity where you realize that yes, your life DOES continue to keep moving, and yes, it IS okay to be happy, in fact, you SHOULD be happy), which is a very important milestone, and arguably the "best" or most positive moment in the grieving process--and that just doesn't seem to have clicked with readers.

Most fun to write:

"A Kind of Merry War." It was for an exchange-ish thing, and I wasn't expecting to have as much fun with it as I did, but ho damn do I love writing Yuffie Kisaragi accomplishing the impossible.

Sexiest fic:

Personally, I think "Let Go" is probably one of the hotter things I've ever written.

"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" fic:

Uh, nothing particularly terrible in '09. I guess I'll have to write something horrible and sick this year.

Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:

"Some Torture" was sort of the liquidation of what I felt about Yuffie's relationship with Shalua--and yet it also changed my perceptions of both characters. I feel like I know who post-DoC!Yuffie is now, and I feel like I've gotten to know Shalua.

Hardest fic to write:

"Eight Portraits," hands down. Also, it should be noted that I started "Some Torture" at some point in '08 and let it sit for over a year before I could finish it.

Biggest disappointment:

I don't have "Catch Me" ready for publication yet. Also, I didn't really start on anything for "Terror of the Skies," and I haven't gotten much done on "Gifts and Treasures."

Biggest surprise:

"Eight Portraits." I don't write deathfic much, as a rule, and yet I was suddenly struck by this need to kill Tifa and see what would hapen. And, apart from one particularly weird reviewer, it was well received. o_O

Most telling fic:

"Some Torture" will probably tell you exactly what I think of Shelke. "Eight Portraits" will probably tell you quite a bit about me in general.

Year-end squee:

Uh, I wrote more than I thought I did? Woohoo? Also, YAY, AO3 IS UP. Also, uh, wow, I wrote a lot of angst this year. Holy crap. Also, I FINISHED BURNT OFFERINGS, WOOHOO!

What's next:

"Catch Me On the Ground," a Rurouni Kenshin sci fi AU based on the alternate concept art, "Terror of the Skies," affectionately dubbed FLYING VAMPIRATES ARE GO. and "Circles," the epic Gungrave angsty slash PWP with no readily apparent chronology. And, of course, at some point I'll start up on "Gifts and Treasures," the sequel to Burnt Offerings.
