So, not to jump the gun, but I think I'm on the second-to-last chapter of a fic I've been working on for the last month. After that, I'm taking a week off from that universe and writing something else, and then I'll jump back in. I've got at least a month of buffer if I only post once a week.

It's a weird feeling. Anybody who knows me knows how rarely I finish. It really does help me to have a concrete plan, huh?

I did, in fact, finish the Anji fight. And then my laptop died. This Thursday I'm headed down to the Makerspace to retrieve the SSD and turn it into an external. (Woo.)

More news: got married! Honeymoon was a cruise with like 8 of my favorite people in the world (and one person I would have happily pushed over the side of the ship) and it was fucking fantastic. I miss having everybody all together and maybe someday we can all do it (or something similar) again. Only maybe not on Norwegian.

The summer has continued apace. soon I'll be back in classes, oy vey. Mostly I've been writing. I'm about 17k into a piece I'm calling "The Heart In The Water-Grass," though its title may end up being "Armed Prophets."

1: I've been quiet because I've had exams. Fuck only knows how I did on the A&P exam, but I think I only missed one or two questions on my Gen Chem.

2: The seven year old Guatemalan girl who died after being in Border Patrol custody? Yeah, that particular checkpoint operates out of Lordsburg, not far from where dogstar and I are. We've grabbed a saint candle and we'll see about lighting one for her outside the Border Patrol office over there. It's not much, but god, I want these dipshits to understand that their adherence to this administration's bullshit fearmongering policy killed a child. And I know it won't change anything -- I sincerely doubt people go into Border Control thinking about the compassion they want to extend to others -- but since it's assault to grab somebody, shake them, and scream in their face, this is what I've got.

3: We went up into the Gila to watch the meteor shower tonight. dogstar took some super-hot cider; I mixed up some booze 'nog (sadly, it was Evan Williams. Not that I'm specifically proud of anything about Tennessee, but Kentucky whiskey is just inferior) and listened to traditional Christmas carols. It was the first meteor shower I'd ever seen, and holy shit, I was missing out.

4: AAAAAAAAAAAAA VATHARA UPLOADED SPIN CYCLE TO THE AO3 AAAAAAAAAAaaaa.

(Someday, I'll go back to Dragon Age or "Even In Another Time" or "That We've Broken Their Statues," but Ruroken is my primary fandom right now. I'm not sure why "disturbed former spies running a ryokan and the manic pixie conartist girls who love them" is so comforting for me right now, but I almost always go back to RK when I'm under stress. IDEK why.)

I've applied to DACC so I can pick up some extra math and psych courses so I can graduate by December of 2021. I've also told Bryan College to send my old transcript over.

Looks like it's really been six years. Holy shit. Let's see here:

I've moved from TN to Asheville, NC to New Mexico
I quit working for Receivia, worked for an Asheville hospital, worked for a hospital here in NM, and am now a student again (going for a BSN this time!)
I got engaged to dogstar; we're getting married next May
Si passed away in 2016, I adopted a pit mix whom I named Barkspawn, who passed away in February of this year, and I now have a husky mix named Joker.
I've wandered around in Dragon Age, Teen Wolf, Labyrinth, and Netflix Daredevil/Netflix Punisher fandoms, and I've gone back to RuroKen for now.

Those are the big changes, I guess?

I am sometimes astounded by the people I work with. I had just put an iron supplement in my mouth and bent for the water fountain when a co-worker shoved his hand in front of the spigot, preventing me from drinking.

And he seems to think that this would have been a very funny joke if I hadn't had a good damned reason to be wanting water immediately.
